Primary Election
The Primary Election is an election to determine which candidates will qualify for the General Election for a given party. In Iowa you must be a member of the political party of which you wish to vote for in order to participate. This is known as a "closed primary." The primary election is held on the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in June of each even-numbered year.

Absentee Ballots

Absentee Ballot Request forms will be accepted beginning Tuesday, March 26th, 2024.  Ballots will be available to be mailed and voted in-person beginning Wednesday May 15th, 2024.

  • The last day an absentee ballot my be mailed to a voter for this election is Monday, May 20th, 2024 (Postal delivery is now two to five days each way).  
  • In-Person voting in the office the Franklin County Auditor closes at 4:00PM on Monday, June 3rd, 2024. 
  • Requests for absentee ballots must be made in writing and should be mailed or delivered to: Franklin County Auditor, PO Box 26, Hampton, Iowa 50441

Voted Absentee ballots returned to by mail to the Auditor's Office must be received by 8:00PM on Election Day, Tuesday, June 4th, 2024 to be considered on time to be counted.  Voters are advised to keep in mind that postal delivery is now two to five days.  

Extended Hours

Extended and Saturday hours are available for voter registration and absentee voting in the Franklin County Auditor's Office.  In addition to regular hours of Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 4:00PM, extended office hours during the 2024 Primary Election season will be as follows: 

  • Friday, March 22 - 8AM to 5PM
  • Thursday, April 18 - 8AM to 5PM
  • Monday, May 20 - 8AM to 5PM
  • Friday, May 31 - 8AM to 5PM
  • Saturday, June 1 - 7:30AM to 3:30PM
  • Tuesday, June 4 - 6AM to 9PM (or later, depending on election activities)
